Spring Awakening
Title “Spring Awakening” (Maximalist Meadows 5)
Size 16x20
Medium Acrylic
Another addition to my ‘Maximalist Meadows’ Series with a tad more subtlety to it.
The floral design doesn’t overtake the entire canvas like in the others, I skipped the classic drip affect and it was incredibly challenging to finish mentally; hence its name.
I had been in a creative slump to say the least for almost 3 months. An endless cycle of telling myself “tomorrow i’ll paint”, followed by finding something “easier” or “more important” or a multitude of excuses that led me not to begin. Of course, this led to extreme anxiety, imposter syndrome, and of course avoidance.
I started this floral piece 2 1/2 months ago. I didn’t like the colors I chose thinking they were too dark, one dimensional and ultimately “gave up” on it. It stared at me every time i’d sit in my living room, my easel facing the couch. It was so daunting.
I finally decided to just dive in and the colors, flowers, placement, everything just began to click. I truly felt a newfound love for floral painting with acrylics.
When it came to the background I was stumped for a good while but ultimately decided on the light pink. Immediately I began to feel giddy, a unique but amazing rush of spring and joy rushed through me!
This piece Spring Awakening is one of a kind and embraces the unique creativity journey we all experience day to day.
